Press release: First graduate of the Digital Engineering Master's program receives research contract at the Faculty of Computer Science

Magdeburg. Ludwig Bedau is the first graduate of the "Master Digital Engineering" postgraduate course at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. At the graduation ceremony, he said that he was particularly impressed by the broad, cross-faculty course selection. At the Center for Digital Engineering cedemo, where Bedau spent the last four semesters, this had recently been broadened once again: the compulsory elective courses, which make up the majority of the Master's degree, had been supplemented by modules for professionals. These should also enable professionals to acquire certificates in the blended learning model during their professional career and thus broaden their academic base even further with an advanced Master's degree.

After his bachelor's degree with an engineering background, the master's degree is the next logical step to a PhD, said Bedau. He wants to do this "in the field of identifying innovation potential. That should be an interesting project."

Academic advisor Prof. Dr. Frank Ortmeier congratulated the successful graduate on his degree and on his permanent position as a research assistant and emphasized the innovation potential of cyber-physical connections: "I am delighted with our first graduate. cedemo is on the right track with the 'Master Digital Engineering': after all, innovation today almost always arises where classic engineering is extended virtually."

About the Master Digital Engineering:

The Master's degree course in Digital Engineering is aimed at students with a Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science. Graduates of the course are engineers with a sound knowledge of computer science for the development, design and operation of complex technical products and systems. The course provides important skills for carrying out industrial advance development and academic research. Special project work, which goes beyond comparable courses in terms of objectives, content and scope, optimally prepares students for the special challenges of interdisciplinary research. Selected course content is offered in coordination and cooperation with industry-related research partners. The key skills taught on the course focus on interdisciplinary communication and project work, which enable graduates to take on management and interface positions in particular thanks to their interdisciplinary knowledge.

About the cedemo and the OVGU:

Cedemo is embedded in one of the most comprehensive competence locations for the digital engineering cluster. With its three business units cedemo EDUCATION, cedemo NETWORK and cedemo RESEARCH, the center is intensively dedicated to education and training, the maintenance and development of an extensive network and the development of new innovation potential.

Otto von Guericke University comprises nine faculties and sees itself as a profile university. It strives for a sharply contoured and lean structure that has a traditional focus on engineering, natural sciences and medicine and considers economics, social sciences and humanities to be indispensable disciplines for a modern university in the information society.
